Great dish for those summer bbq's! (part one)
We are well into the season and you have probably been to several back yard cook outs - parties - bar-b-ques.....whatever you call them, lol. Do you have a 'regular' dish that you bring to these gatherings? Or are you 'last minute' looking for something to bring?
While it is EASY to stop at the bakery or supermarket on the say and pick up a cake or watermelon.....HOMEMADE IS SOOOOO MUCH BETTER ![]()
Here is an easy cake (IF I CAN MAKE IT, YOU CAN TOO!) and I always bring home an empty pan ![]()
The Dump Cake
Need to have on hand: 1 can (20 oz) of Crushed Pineapple with juice - DO NOT DRAIN IT
1 can (21 oz) Cherry Pie Filling (
1 box of cake mix. - yellow, white or pineapple flavor.
1 cup of chopped pecans or walnuts (they sell them in the store already chopped!!!)
1 1/2 sticks of butter/margarine (cut into thin slices)
13 x 9 inch pan
(Crisco shortening to grease the pan)
1 tub of cool whip light (found in the freezer section near the pies and ice cream usually)
Now - this has to be the easiest cake to make - NO MIXING REQUIRED....MAKE IT - BAKE IT - TAKE IT....ALL IN THE SAME PAN ![]()
here's what you do:
* turn on your oven to 350 degrees F. (BAKE) (for most models, when the light goes out it is ready)
* Grease the pan with shortening. (put some shortening on a paper towel, and rub the grease all over the inside of the pan - sides AND bottom)
* Open the crushed pineapple - pour into the pan - JUICE AND ALL.......and spread it evenly with the back of a spoon or something.
* Open the cherry pie filling - AND DUMP IT IN.... DO NOT MIX - - just spread it over the pineapple.
* Open the cake mix - and sprinkle it over the cherry layer - DO NOT MIX...JUST SPRINKLE IT OVER
* Next sprinkle the chopped nuts over the cake mix layer.....
* next (and final) layer is the butter slices (just arrange evenly over the whole top)
* bake for about 50 minutes. every oven is different - it may take a little more..or a little less. (top will be LIGHTLY browned)
BAKE THE MORNING OF THE PARTY! CAN BE SERVED WARM OR ROOM TEMP. with whipped cream of course!
SLICE AND SERVE RIGHT FROM THE PAN - EASY
And Enjoy!! Don't forget you pan when it's time to leave.
