A new way to perform water removal on a flat roof
This is a common understanding that all flat roofs have the potential to develop water removal problems with water standing in low areas. Old drain placements that are made at the time of the original construction of flat roof type buildings often become ineffective due to the settling of the buildings. In such an event the old drains are therefore no longer effective for water removal sitting on such roofs.
Water that is deep enough and does not evaporate within 48 hours have the tendency to seep into small pin holes and perforations in the roof membrane trapping moisture underneath its surface which causes a blistering effect when exposed to sunlight and will result in breaking down the insulation and sub structure beneath the roof. This tends to create the need for an entirely new roof with pitch to cause natural drainage to occur after a rainfall or melting ice. A second option is making a flat roof that may sometimes be applied if the building can support its weight which requires professional evaluation.
Various types of water drainage systems for water removal have been developed in the past, but unfortunately none of them are capable of effective drainage from flat roofs.
So all these factors lead to the need of system that can help assist in water removal from roofs. The present invention relates to a new and improved siphon heads that are used for draining away accumulated water on a flat roof where conventional water drainage systems fail to allow roofs to drain dry. The invention further address the concern of a new and improved system for water removal from flat roofs where the flat roofs have either a smooth or a rough texture, and different types of siphon heads are provided for achieving this result.
It includes a drain having an inverted cup-shaped drain member with peripherally spaced elongated drain slots. The siphon head is made of a soft flexible elastomeric material including a relatively flat foot flange adapted to rest flat on a roof to be drained, and a dome shaped head portion centrally located and integrally formed with the relatively flat foot flange. This relatively flat foot flange extends outward in a relatively flat plane beyond the head portion and surrounding the head portion in all directions. The head portion is open on its top side and provides an annular edge for nested engagement with the drain with a portion of the elongated slots lying below the edge, and other portions of the elongated slots lying above the edge. This edge is arranged in a form of snug nested engagement with the drain while the relatively foot flange is supported on the flat roof.
It is important to note that this invention is not confined to a particular construction and arrangement of parts, but covers all such modified forms thereof.
