How To Deal With A Bathtub Overflow

So you had a stressful day and work, and what better way to get over it than a long hot bath, right? So you've turned on your water, and let's say that you had a phone call come in, or some other distraction, while the water was running. And while you were tending to that business, you became so caught up in it that you forgot to turn the water off and now the water has overflowed all over your bathroom floor. Do not worry, there is a way to prevent your bathroom from becoming water damaged with these simple steps.

The first thing you need to do is not panic! It'll be alright as long as you clean up the water fast enough. The next thing is to soak up all the water into towels, and then ring the water out in either a sink or outside. After you've done this, wash your towels. After that, you should hook up a dehumidifier to get rid of any left over moisture in the room. This will take away any lingering moisture that could cause a mold build up in your bathroom.

After doing this, you should inspect around your tub for any cracks where water may have gone into. These cracks are hotbeds for mold activity and need to be dealt with as soon as possible. If you do discover mold, it is best to quickly eliminate it before it continues to grow. Most consumer level cleaning agents are more than capable of eliminating surface level mold, but if the mold is widespread, then you should consult an expert on the matter.

After you have cleaned any surface mold, you should do a check of the rest of the bathroom that may have been affected. Look for any cracks, and double check under your bathroom sink for mold while you're at it. You should inspect the bathroom from top to bottom for any traces of mold. If you find mold, you should immediately clean it as to prevent build up of anymore mold that could become hazardous.

You should also keep an eye out for cracks that you can caulk up to prevent further possible mold build up in case such a thing were to happen again. You will find that these steps will help make things much healthier for your bathroom. The tips can also be used to help make sure the rest of your house is clean and free of mold.
