Mold Damage - You Never Have Much Hope Of Selling A Home That Is Infested

So, you have decided that you want to sell your home in order to bring some money into the bank and live a more comfortable lifestyle than you are accustomed to. You have packed up all of your belongings, you have begun placing ads in newspapers, and you have even set up a few potential buyers to come over and look at the house.

But you may have a problem that you have not even thought about. Your home may be a harbinger of mold, and you may not even realize it. Mold is a form of bacteria that is attracted to heat and moisture. Mold can be very harmful to your respiratory and immune systems due to the spores emitted and how those spores can get inside your lungs and make you very sick. Here are some tips that will help you find mold before you sell your home and help keep your potential buyers safe.

The first place to look is in the bathroom. In the bathroom, where you take those long steamy showers, the steam from showers can condensate and build up on the walls and drip down to the baseboards. When the water goes into the cracks between the baseboards, it can become a feeding ground for mold. When the mold builds up, it will become very obvious. You will notice some black discoloration around the wood.

The best way to get rid of this mold is to use chemical cleaning agents. However, if the damage is too extensive you may need to take the baseboards out and replace them. If you must replace them, then be sure to clean very thoroughly in the area they used to be. The next place to look in the bathroom is to look under the sink for any buildup that may occur there due to leaky pipes.

The next place you need to look is on the walls and on the ceiling. If you see obvious mold, then you need to clean it immediately. If the mold does not go away, then you may have the serious problem of mold being inside the insulation of the wall and the mold may be there for a permanent stay. You will most likely have to get the wall replaced in this instance. It is important to eliminate all traces of the mold, as the spores can be a serious health hazard for potential buyers.

When you have completed your bathroom inspection, you should repeat the same inspection in the kitchen, attic, and the basement if there is one. Your home will definitely be inspected by a professional hired by any buyer or real estate agent anyway, so you will end up addressing these mold issues anyway before you can possibly sell it.
