Being in the home building industry has provided a different view on house values, home renovation ideas and the current state of the housing market. It is a fact that the International Builders’ Show had considerably fewer attendees than last year’s show – the actual number was almost 50,000 less people in attendance. This is not a big surprise to anyone in the industry, being that were in a huge slump in housing and in the economy. But this should not stop you from continuing to add value to your house or investment properties. Prices have come down a bit, in regards to supplies being more than demand, but it is still prudent to shop around, avoid retail, and find the best deals.

As always, avoiding retail prices is the best way to add value to your kitchen with out paying outrageous amounts to do so. The number one item used to improve a kitchen is the kitchen cabinets. The current best value in the kitchen cabinet industry is the RTA kitchen cabinet. RTA is not a brand name; instead it is an acronym for “ready to assemble” kitchen cabinets. Along with RTA bathroom vanities, RTA kitchen cabinets have become the best way to improve your kitchen (or bath) without spending a huge amount of money.

Every big box retail store will have these RTA kitchen cabinets and RTA bathroom vanities, but avoiding retail is the key to saving money, therefore shopping online is the absolute best way to get a great price and great quality. I mention great quality because the big box retail stores (such as Home Depot or Lowe’s) will carry RTA kitchen cabinets, but will provide you with a lower quality cabinet at a higher price. These stores are not directly in the cabinet business, so they do one of two things. Carry cheap kitchen cabinets and charge a slightly higher price, than you would find for better cabinets online. Or offer you a good quality cabinet, but charge you up to 4 times (4X) the amount that you would pay for cabinets online. Note – these stores make money off of volume products, warehousing kitchen cabinets, is not practical for the store, therefore they do not carry a large amount of inventory. Thus passing their added costs onto you and subsequently increasing your costs.

Finally, with the current housing market trends, one must find better ways to buy home improvement products. Shopping online has never made more sense. It saves time, it saves gas money, and it is more convenient. Some trepidation should be expected about purchasing cabinets online, but the better RTA kitchen cabinets sites (do a Google search for RTA kitchen cabinets) will rise to the top. Please note that the first two or three spots on any website are paid searches, always avoid these links and go to the “organic links”. The organic links are the websites that naturally come up in a search and these sites will always provide a better product because they are not paying to be at the top of a search. It is basically simple economics – some sites pay to be at the top of a search engine, but then that cost gets transferred to you in the form of a higher price for their products. Or you can go with the true links that are not paying to be there and thus have fewer costs. Use one of these sites – order some sample doors and start the process of saving money by shopping online.
