At the other end of the spectrum are the highly sophisticated burglar alarms. These can be costly, running into hundreds and even thousands of dollars. Near-million dollar alarm systems, used in extremely sensitive installation are not unheard of either. These are usually programmable, so that their working can be adjusted in the face of various situations. Many not only detect burglary, but also take corrective measures against it: by for instance automatically calling the security agencies. For all this sophistication then, one doesn’t feel bad having to cough hundreds or even thousands of dollars.

The second determinant of the cost of burglar alarms is their installation mechanisms. It is worth noting that some burglar alarms that cost so little ultimately leave a huge dent in your pocket when you factor in installation costs: as they can only be installed by ‘specialists’ whose time doesn’t come cheap.

The third determinant of the cost of burglar alarms is where one is purchasing them from – as the systems cost considerably more in some parts of the world than in others. Sometimes, especially for the high end systems, local costs can be so high that it makes sense to directly order and import yours from the manufacturers.
